I had opportunity this morning to see the Miami Valley Orchid Society’s Spring 2012 Orchid Show at the Cox Arboretum.

Though I consider the orchid family of flowers to be among my favorite to photograph, I had never been to an Orchid Show where they judge the flowers.

Previously I had only seen orchids in botanical gardens and conservatories. In a Show, the flowers of the various orchid growers are judged and given awards.

The show was spectacular. The plants in the competition were wonderfully displayed, and besides many of the orchids have a wonderful fragrance.

The Orchid Show is a very joyous way to spend an hour or so admiring the variety of shapes, sizes, colors, textures and scents of just one species of flower. So if you need to enjoy some beauty, I would say visit an Orchid Show.
