Christian Joy

As we come to the end of 2015, we find words for us to contemplate and live by.  And we see that the truth which the Holy Fathers taught is simply a further expression of Scripture.

“As he was dying, Abba Benjamin said to his disciples:   ‘If you observe the following, you can be saved:

“Be joyful at all times!

Pray without ceasing!

And give thanks for all things!”

(In the Heart of the Desert: The Spiritual Sayings of the Desert Fathers and Mothers by John Chryssavgis, p 105)

Those last words of the dying desert father, are words of life taken from St. Paul.

“Rejoice always,

pray constantly,

give thanks in all circumstances;

for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
